Getting Kids into Books This playful life size book is for children to interact and engage with by getting inside the story - literally. Holes allow the audience to poke their heads through and become the character, and other elements such as pop-ups and flaps are fun and surprising. Each page tells a story without words, which encourages the child to use their imagination and think of their own story for the characters on the page. The use of limited colour and paper-cut illustrations are simple and minimal yet carefully considered. Books introduce children to worlds and themes that they might never experience in real life, so the book combines fantasy and reality with four scenes such as underwater, space, jungle and snowy. This project helped me to contextualise what I learnt in my dissertation, which was about children’s picture books and learning through play. A project with Sally Symes
